Trying Out: Shadespire

Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire is a newish game by Games Workshop. It was released at the end of 2017 and I noticed it only after buying the Sepulchral Guard for just painting skeletons.

In this post I’ll be discussing my views of the game and how I experienced it while playing. Spoiler alert: I love the game.

New Fiasco Playset – Heart of Dreams

Heart of Dreams is the fourth Fiasco playset created on our Guild’s forum. It started out as a small idea for a oneshot but quickly evolved to a playset for Fiasco. This time only Aki and I participated in this but I still think it tops our previous playsets.

You can download the playset HERE or from the Resources page where you can also find the previous playsets.

Heart of DreamsWith a rising, award-winning director with a vision, an excellent script and plenty of funding, from both various public institutions and wealthy investors, the movie was going to be the biggest, most talked about since Star Wars.

Things didn’t go quite as planned.

The director insisted on a remote location for the shoot based on some half-spoken dream. He always seems to get mad when anyone brings it up. The conditions are horrible. Weather is a problem on most days and the shoot is over a year behind. Tensions are high, because there seems to be no end to this. The director and the star have been on each others throats for months, but most of the crew just wants to get by day to day.

As always we hope that you have good time playing something we have created!

If you find yourself wondering about something or just want to give us feedback, please feel free to drop as a comment or contact us on Twitter.

Designing Eldritch Sigils

Last Sunday I published the beta version of rules for Eldritch Sigils. This is a game I have been working on for about five years. I have actually published earlier drafts over the years but this was the first time it actually has consistency and it is actually playable.

This has been a long process and one that is still in the works. But now that the rules are “out there” I thought it would be a good chance to talk about them. Since game design is quite an interesting topic I hope that sharing my process might produce new ideas or at least be curious.

Ropecon 2016 – Last Thoughts Before Tomorrow

This year’s Ropecon starts tomorrow. This means a weekend of gaming, making new friends (and enemies) and a lot of weird events. This year might be even weirder since nobody knows how the new location will work out. Will it be so good that Ropecon enters a new renessaince or will it fall to chaos? We’ll just have to witness it ME!

“WITNESS ME!”

Here are a few last things to remember:

  • If you are not sure what games you should try, check out our recommendations.
  • This is a new location for the organizers as well; ask them about what you want to know but let them make mistakes.
  • Try a game you haven’t tried before. This is the main reason I go to Ropecon. It is an excellent chance to have a go with a new system or game.
  • At least consider larping. It isn’t for all but it is certainly something every should at least try.
  • Make the most of it! Ropecon is only once a year!
  • Follow this blog and our Instagram for updates, photos and first hand experiences.

Lastly I would like to (once again) remind you that if you need a photographer for your games or cosplay (etc.) don’t hesitate to find me or contact me. My time tables are flexible and if I’m not at the middle of a game I’m more than willing to take even more photos.

Great gaming for everyone!

Starting a New Campaign

Summer is almost here and traditionally it’s time for new games and campaigns. I’m actually going to start two new campaigns during this month. So I decided it might be interesting to discuss about how I do it. I’m not saying my way is the best but since it works for me I have no doubt it could work for others.

Chaos & Order – Ropecon 2016

cosplay21This year’s Ropecon is getting closer and closer. And with it our speculations about the whole shenanigan grow wilder and wilder. For Ropecon has found a new location at Messukeskus Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre and older visitors that have grown accustomed to Dipoli will have to brave the wilds and dare to enter this new environment.

It will be interesting to see how the change of scenery affects the whole experience. I really liked the outdoor possibilities around Dipoli but I’m also willing to give Messukeskus a chance. It’s most likely be an experience heavily influenced with the chaos and order theme. Some people know what is going on and they’ll have to work really hard to establish order.

Season of the Witch, Part 5

It is quite remarkable how a few random words can make a big difference. I though I was having great time yesterday while playing Eldritch Sigils but once we were leaving Mikko‘s place after the game one of the players said something that not only made my day but also made me think (again) about how and why we play. It wasn’t a big thing at all – he just said: “I didn’t remember to mark down my exp.”

New Games by Guild Redemund

kiltamerkki_peleihinI’m cheating with the topic but at least you are reading still, right? These games are not “new” per se but hacks and adventures. There is our newest collaborative Fiasco playset, an agnostic fantasy adventure (though it does have Dungeon World threat sheet) and a game that is built on Matthijs Holter‘s Archipelago.

Alpha Polaris Released on Steam

Alpha_Polaris_PosterOnce upon a time I lived at Rovaniemi and game mastered a campaign of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying game for a group of friends. That small group had grown into a quite large community and it is called Redemund’s Guild (hence the name of the this blog too). Two of those original founding fathers of our guild were the driving force behind a horror game called Alpha Polaris and the original play testing was done via our forums.

So now I’m extremely delighted to see that game going on Steam!

Trying out: Heroica

heroica01As a fortunate accident my father bought an older Lego set from a closing sale and brought it to my son. He believed to have bought a regular castle with some minifigs but instead he had bought Heroica – Castle Fortaan. In essence it is a dungeon bashing “board” game that follows the style of other Lego game (only a few rules and encouraging words to come up with your own). So naturally I had to try it.
