Keyforge is a card game that came out at the end of 2018. It is designed by Richard Garfield and published by Fantasy Flight Games. The core idea of the game is to gather enough resources (aember) to get three points (keys) to win the game. The gimmick of the game is that it only comes in pre-built decks that are all unique and cannot be altered. I tried out Keyforge a couple of weeks ago and in summary I kind of liked it but it clearly is not for me.

Hearthstone and making epics great again
I want to share my view on Blizzard‘s Hearthstone in Summer 2017. In this post I assume You, the reader, know the game already so I won’t be explaining the core mechanics or any basic stuff. It’s free-to-play so just try the game and come back to read about it! Continue reading
Designing Eldritch Sigils
Last Sunday I published the beta version of rules for Eldritch Sigils. This is a game I have been working on for about five years. I have actually published earlier drafts over the years but this was the first time it actually has consistency and it is actually playable.
This has been a long process and one that is still in the works. But now that the rules are “out there” I thought it would be a good chance to talk about them. Since game design is quite an interesting topic I hope that sharing my process might produce new ideas or at least be curious.
EDH Deck Time: Leovold
This really isn’t my cup of tea but since Aki is too busy I decided to try writing a Magic article. I’m nowhere near as experienced in this as Aki is but don’t worry. I’ll ask his opinion on this. On the top of this I must admit that I’m more inclined to build decks with a theme rather than ultimate power level. But that’s ok since [scryfall]Leovold, Emissary of Trest[/scryfall] just screams “elfball!” to me.
My Experiences on the Battle for Zendikar Prerelease
I just came home from my second prerelease event; this time it was Battle for Zendikar and at the first time I was at Magic: Origins prerelease. I had fun though I am suffering from a never-ending flu. As I only have experience on these two sanctioned events I cannot help but to compare the two. I might add that I have nowhere near as much experience on Magic: the Gathering as Aki has and I take the whole game anyway pretty differently.
Trying out: Hearthstone
Hearthstone: The Heroes of Warcraft is a collectible “card game” played on computer or tablet. I just installed it on my iPad and tried it out. And by saying “tried it out” I started fours hours ago and are still playing. As advertised it is insanely addictive. At least for someone who has been playing Magic: the Gathering for several years.
I started just to get the feeling for it and quite possibly try it out against fellow Guild members. Weirdly it didn’t let me search for familiar opponents from the beginning but guided me through the simple enough tutorials. The tutorials while informing took quite long to finish and even after that I had to challenge all possible “heroes” to get the whole thing open. But once I did that I got the hang of the game and opened all the options for the game. Continue reading
