Last night we gathered together to try out the new Magic the Gathering pre-constructed Commander decks. Four players, four decks and about four hours of fun! In this post I will be summarising our experiences on the playability of the pre-constructed decks and share our initial feeling about how it all went.
One of the problems in recent history was that there weren’t really good four mana green creatures. Why was that a problem? Because there were plenty of two costing mana elves. If you play those, you want to play a four drop to play on turn three. Sure, there is [scryfall]Bristling Hydra[/scryfall], which is still quite strong, but there’s some new ones in the new set. (Actually, [scryfall]Crocodile of the Crossing[/scryfall] is quite underappreciated as well.)
Wow, a Jace I actually like. Now, don’t get me wrong. There’s been powerful Jace’s before, but this one I like for how it works and there’s a huge difference there.
I don’t think this is a good idea, but has that ever stopped me from brewing before? Obviously that was just a rhetoric question, but it shouldn’t anyone, because you never know where the really workable ideas lie.
The idea I started with was that green was going to be the control color. I gave each color 50 cards, and this is what I think green should look like at this point.
I was meant to publish this ages ago, early summer actually, right after we had our annual meeting, where myself and Lauri presented this. As per the Guild custom, the evidence of that was burned immediately (so no-one could contest the results), but as I recall, the best score was around 6.5, so that’s your goal.
I don’t have that much experience with either set and I would rather do this later, when I’m more familiar with it, but on the other hand, my job won’t let me play very much after my summer vacation, so I might as well do his now.
The problem with many white-collar jobs is that you never really let go of your work. Your brain is always working on something. I have realized in my dreams that there’s a bug in my code, woken up, went to read the code and seen that I was right. I have solved mathematical problems in while sleeping. Yesterday, I came up with a very interesting card design in a dream.
