PasCon 2015

Last weekend it was Lauri’s and Sarianna’s (Lauri’s wife) fifth anniversary. For the Guild, that’s just another excuse to play games. (Hopefully Sarianna was aware of this plan.) Since this was pretty close to our usual annual event, PasCon, this sort of became it. (And hopefully, the guests outside of the Guild weren’t too bothered about what they had to witness.)

Since quite a few of the writers on this were there as well (well, everyone except Ville), we decided to join forces and make a common report. So, this might be a bit long. Hang on, there’s bound to be some good parts in there somewhere.

Battle for Zendikar Brews, pt. 2 – Monogreen Landfall

I don’t think [scryfall]Scythe Leopard[/scryfall] will be the next [scryfall]Steppe Lynx[/scryfall], but it does have some potential. I’m not sure about the [scryfall]Undergrowth Champion[/scryfall]. There must be some reason it was made a mythic, but I’m not sure I see it. Still, I would like to test it. The thing is, there will be a suite of removal that is popular and it is going to have to react to what is happening in the metagame. Is it going to be good? Are people going to have to rely on something to kill all the big Eldrazi, perhaps this little guy can get through. Perhaps the triggers are just valuable enough to play it anyway. After all, it can quite easily grow beyond [scryfall]Languish[/scryfall].

My Favorite Decks from Pro Tour Magic Origins

Wow, I expected red, but not this much of it. I like how [scryfall]Abbot of Keral Keep[/scryfall] really had a good outing. Its not [scryfall]Snapcaster Mage[/scryfall], but the fact that its in the same conversation should be a pretty good hint that you should be playing this card.

Gladly, I bought mine when they didn’t have any value…

Anyhow, here’s some other decks I liked. I’m going to keep away from the top 8 decks. Everyone has seen those and there’s some depth in there…

Standard Deck Time: GW Heroic

I was watching a match on SCG, where there was a WU Heroic versus GW Megamorph. At one point, the latter put the former into a very bad position by playing a [scryfall]Boon Satyr[/scryfall] on a [scryfall]Den Protector[/scryfall] to bypass blockers on the Heroic side.

My thought: Why wouldn’t the other side use this evasion?

Magic Origins Thoughts on Standard

I guess I’m done brewing for now (probably not really), and I’d just like to share my thoughts on some (actually quite a few) cards I think might have an impact on standard that I find interesting for various reasons. I’ll try not to overlap too much with my previous brew articles, though, and I’m going to emphasize cards that might have an impact here rather than outright very powerful cards.
