In a world of sorcery speed removal, how good would [scryfall]Ever After[/scryfall] be with these two fine ladies:

Hello, all. I’m not sure how much I’ll be doing this, but this idea just came to me while lying in my bed, reading a book on education theory at around one o’clock at night. Weird how we people come up with stuff. Any how, I thought how interesting would it be to see how certain types of cards (say, rats, black removal, knights, ramp spells, counters) have evolved over the years. Magic has been around for a long while now, so there must be interesting things here.
In the interest of doing something quite general at first, I decided to go with something quite ubiquitous. And since MagicCards.info tells me there’s 59 red cards with X in the casting cost, many of which are not related to this article, his might actually be a manageable enough place to start.
First, what do I mean ‘Fireballs’? Well, all the descendants of this:
Its kind of iconic and has been around since the beginning, although they’ve tried out a lot of different things with these things over the years. I’m limiting this to spells that can deal damage to both players and creatures, but it has to target, so no Earthquake
or Molten Disaster
here, just for the sake of limiting this to something I can sift through in a limited amount of time.
Just a sick, sick idea on how to abuse [scryfall]Sorin, Grim Nemesis[/scryfall] and the new Emrakul.

[scryfall]Meloku, the Clouded Mirror[/scryfall] is one of my favorite commanders.
I do have a certain affection for quite a few blue commanders, but with Meloku, the pull between wanting to play lands and having to bounce them, is quite interesting. This being said, I don’t want to play her too much, since she has a tendency to be a bit too consistent for my tastes. Despite this, I went to EDHREC (a great site, btw) to see if other people were doing something interesting with her. Apparently not really. However, I always found her very powerful in one specific regard, which didn’t seem to get any press on the page…
Since its the most interesting Legend in Eternal Masters (for me, at least, I bet [scryfall]Maelstrom Wanderer[/scryfall] is generally more liked… or hated), I think I should write about this:
Okay, its sort of a boring commander. Just a wizard (without a race, by the way) who draws cards. Well, quite a few cards.
Living in Europe, I have the pleasure of being able to use MagicCardMarket or MCM. Its a nice way to get the single cards you need from a centralized service (and not having to take part in the travesty that is Puca Trade). One of the fun things about the service (pretty much like any good service on in the Internet), you can go through your whole history of purchases.
I was playing in the Finnish Championships of MtG this last weekend. Didn’t go too well, but first of the two drafts did go swimmingly. Being at 1-2 after the first three standard rounds, I knew I probably need to spike this thing to have any hope and a middling draft wouldn’t do anything for me, I went for a very greedy plan. I first-picked [scryfall]Anguished Unmaking[/scryfall], then got passed a [scryfall]Drogskol Cavalry[/scryfall] (an excellent card, even if it doesn’t look like it in the beginning), and then a [scryfall]Triskaidekaphobia[/scryfall], twice.
You know, stuff that isn’t actually very important, but just happen to tickle me in the right places.
Games are fun. They are challenging (or can be), they are social (or can be) and they are good escape from the realities of life (or can be). Its not about a small (cultish) group of hobbyists any more. With the advent of mobile phones, even my mother is playing games actively.
It sure didn’t use to be like that. There’s some truth to the old stereotypes of people in capes talking about summoning demons in a basement. Well, we didn’t use to wear capes, but anyhow.
