Battle for Zendikar Brews, pt. 5 – Wb Swarm

Sam Black was playing a monowhite deck during the Standard portion of this year’s World Championships. It was largely based on a deck played by the famous White Weenie afficionado (this may be the first time I’ve ever used that word) Craig Wescoe, which in turn was based on a monowhite tokens deck played by some lesser known player. (Sorry, I forgot your name and TCGPlayer is down, so I can’t go and check either.)

Most of the card will survive the rotation, but I thought maybe I’d like to bring in black anyhow. Just as a splash, though.

Battle for Zendikar Brews, pt. 3 – Smothering Abomination

Admittedly I’m not getting the same kind of inspiration from this set as I get from other sets, but I do have some ideas. Here’s one. [scryfall]Smother Abomination[/scryfall] is a bomb.

[scryfall]Forerunner of Slaughter[/scryfall] is probably pretty good too.

PasCon 2015

Last weekend it was Lauri’s and Sarianna’s (Lauri’s wife) fifth anniversary. For the Guild, that’s just another excuse to play games. (Hopefully Sarianna was aware of this plan.) Since this was pretty close to our usual annual event, PasCon, this sort of became it. (And hopefully, the guests outside of the Guild weren’t too bothered about what they had to witness.)

Since quite a few of the writers on this were there as well (well, everyone except Ville), we decided to join forces and make a common report. So, this might be a bit long. Hang on, there’s bound to be some good parts in there somewhere.

Battle for Zendikar Brews, pt. 2 – Monogreen Landfall

I don’t think [scryfall]Scythe Leopard[/scryfall] will be the next [scryfall]Steppe Lynx[/scryfall], but it does have some potential. I’m not sure about the [scryfall]Undergrowth Champion[/scryfall]. There must be some reason it was made a mythic, but I’m not sure I see it. Still, I would like to test it. The thing is, there will be a suite of removal that is popular and it is going to have to react to what is happening in the metagame. Is it going to be good? Are people going to have to rely on something to kill all the big Eldrazi, perhaps this little guy can get through. Perhaps the triggers are just valuable enough to play it anyway. After all, it can quite easily grow beyond [scryfall]Languish[/scryfall].
