EDH Deck Time: Arixmethes

Weirdly enough (although obviously it doesn’t actually mean anything) I was designing a card for just this thing in a dream recently. I just don’t remember what it did. I do have a design of this on our Guild forums. Funnily enough, it was also a 12/12 with a casting cost of 2UG, but that’s pretty much the extent of the similarities. Well, that and it couldn’t attack early either. Mine required you control 20 lands. It also had a partner and it gained a +1/+1 counter any time any player revealed a land card from their library or put a land card into play from the library.

Aaanyhow…

Wow. What to do with this?

EDH Deck Time – Liliana’s Contract

In general, I like to avoid tutors, because they have a tendency to make the games too similar. I do usually play one or two in a black deck, but never the actual [scryfall]Demonic Tutor[/scryfall]. However, this is different.

This is all about achievements and there’s actually three levels to this one. Level 1: Four demons with different names. Level 2: Four of the actual Liliana-demons. Level 3: Cast [scryfall]Doomsday[/scryfall] to play the demons in the right order. I don’t know what that is, but that’s why it’s an achievement.

EDH Deck Time: Demonlord Belzenlok

Well, sooner or later I had to do it.

It is, after all, an Elder Demon. Or The Elder Demon, since there aren’t any others as of this writing. In fact, all the other Elders are either Dragons or Dinosaurs. I guess you can’t reach elderhood unless your creature type starts with a ‘d’. So, while we’re waiting for that Legendary Elder Deserter to happen, we’ll talk about this.

EDH Deck Time: Grothama

Grothama is a weird case. I know players who have been looking forward to a Wurm commander for ages, but I don’t think this is going to be it, although with the general quality of Wurms (looking at you, [scryfall]Craw Wurm[/scryfall], although I can’t be mad at that card…), you don’t really mind throwing them at this thing.

EDH Deck Time: Virtus + Gorm

The idea here is pretty obvious. Gorm acts as the Tank while Virtus makes the kill.

Since the images don’t show yet, here’s the text:

Virtus the Veiled
2B
Legendary Creature – Azra Assassin
Partner with Gorm the Great (When this creature enters the battlefield, target player may put Gorm into their hand from their library, then shuffle)

Deathtouch

Whenever Virtus the Veiled deals combat damage to a player, that player loses half their life, rounded up.
1/1

Gorm the Great
3G
Legendary Creature – Giant Warrior
Partner with Virtus the Veiled (When this creature enters the battlefield, target player may put Virtus into their hand from their library, then shuffle)

Vigilance

Gorm the Great must be blocked if able, and Gorm must be blocked by two or more creature if able.
2/7

What can we do with this?

I do have ideas…

EDH Deck Time: Zndrsplt + Okaun

This guy…

Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom
4U
Legendary Creature – Homunculus
Partner with Okaun, Eye of Chaos (When this creature enters the battlefield, target player may put Okaun into their hand from their library, then shuffle.)

At the beginning of combat on your turn, flip a coin until you lose a flip.

Whenever a player wins a coin flip, draw a card.

… is apparently the best friend of this guy:

Okaun, Eye of Chaos
4R
Legendary Creature – Cyclops Berserker
Partner with Zndrsplt, Eye of Wisdom (When this creature enters the battlefield, target player may put Zndrsplt into their hand from their library, then shuffle.)

At the beginning of combat on your turn, flip a coin until you lose a flip.

Whenever a player wins a coin flip, double Okaun’s power and toughness until end of turn.
