Standard Deck Time: GW Heroic

I was watching a match on SCG, where there was a WU Heroic versus GW Megamorph. At one point, the latter put the former into a very bad position by playing a [scryfall]Boon Satyr[/scryfall] on a [scryfall]Den Protector[/scryfall] to bypass blockers on the Heroic side.

My thought: Why wouldn’t the other side use this evasion?

EDH Deck Time: Baru

First question: Why not [scryfall]Ezuri, Renegade Leader[/scryfall] or [scryfall]Kamahl, Fist of Krosa[/scryfall] instead? Ezuri is easy. I don’t have to limit myself to elves. Kamahl is a bit more difficult. First answer is I have done Kamahl and Baru is something new. Second answer is that Baru can bring something quite unique to the table. Each of the ramp spells in your deck becomes a mini-[scryfall]Overrun[/scryfall]. Or in some cases something much, much more.

Deck Time: B/G Warriors

As a brewer, one of the things you tend to do, is just read cards. All the time. Just make queries on Gatherer or MagicCards.info, read through the cards and you’ll get ideas. Especially, when you are loose on your queries.

Like this time. I was looking through warriors to see if I had missed any for my BR Warriors. I just forgot to limit the colors, so I ended up going through all the warriors, and found a couple of good ones.

Dragons of Tarkir Brews, pt. 2 – White Weenie

As one of the mainstay archetypes in the game, White Weenie always seems to be around… Except that right now it isn’t. Sure, there’s BW-Warriors deck out there, but its not quite the same. The problem is that there aren’t usable two drops out there. Sure, there are two-drops such as [scryfall]Seeker of the Way[/scryfall], but you don’t necessarily want that for your weenie deck, which is going to be full of creatures.

Thankfully, Dragons of Tarkir brings us a couple of good ones. And I have a plan…

Fate Reforged Brews, pt. 10 – Selesnya

Is [scryfall]Dromoka, the Eternal[/scryfall] constructed playable? Not sure. It seems like it was pushed to be, but there’s other cards competing for its spot ([scryfall]Wingmate Roc[/scryfall], [scryfall]Nissa Worldwaker[/scryfall] and [scryfall]Ajani, Mentor of Heroes[/scryfall] all come to mind).

However, the cycle of legendary dragons has clearly been pushed for constructed.

Fate Reforged Brew, no. 1

Its kind of early with only two cards available, but each of them is good enough to push certain archetypes. I’m guessing Crux of Fate will be played more, as the UB Control archetype already exists, as well as Mardu Planeswalkers, so there are decks you can easily add it to.

Personally, that’s dull and I’m much more interested in what Yasova Dragonclaw will do to the format.

EDH Pauper Deck Time: Disciple of Deceit

This one is kind of obvious EDH Pauper material. Still, probably a fun deck to build.

The only time I’ve played with [scryfall]Disciple of Deceit[/scryfall] was in the prerelease of Journey Into Nyx. Sometimes it was very good, other times it was just a smallish wall. Still, that was sealed and I didn’t have many tools to work with. In EDH this guy will probably shine, especially if I can use him as the commander.
