I wasn’t a part of the Great Designer Search in any way. I just decided this felt interesting enough for me to try out. I guess I’ll do all of the challenges eventually.
I decided to go with a tribe that doesn’t have pretty much any support: Horrors.
Well, sooner or later I had to do it.
It is, after all, an Elder Demon. Or The Elder Demon, since there aren’t any others as of this writing. In fact, all the other Elders are either Dragons or Dinosaurs. I guess you can’t reach elderhood unless your creature type starts with a ‘d’. So, while we’re waiting for that Legendary Elder Deserter to happen, we’ll talk about this.
Pro Tour Dominaria is in the books… and it didn’t quite pan out like one would hope. There were 28 [scryfall]Goblin Chainwhirler[/scryfall]s in the main decks of top 8. That’s 28 out of possible 32. Yes. It was bad.
So, the Djinn of the family is left out of the fun?
Haven’t done one of these in a while. Don’t play any PDH these days, but I guess these uncommon partners from Battlebond give unique opportunities for this.
Grothama is a weird case. I know players who have been looking forward to a Wurm commander for ages, but I don’t think this is going to be it, although with the general quality of Wurms (looking at you, [scryfall]Craw Wurm[/scryfall], although I can’t be mad at that card…), you don’t really mind throwing them at this thing.
The idea here is pretty obvious. Gorm acts as the Tank while Virtus makes the kill.

What can we do with this?
I do have ideas…
For the record: I do think Modern is too expensive. Jund costs around 2000 dollars and that is prohibitive. I would rather have people being able to play the best deck instead of the best decks being out of their reach, because they can’t afford the cards or are not stupid enough put 2000 dollars into cardboard.

It might not seem like it, but it is a gamechanger. In Commander.
If we focus on the cards that were originally mythics, there aren’t many. Can you name them all? There’s actually quite a few that have been reprinted as mythics. There’s even a version of Impulse
from a From the Vault that has the telltale orange in the logo, even though it has been printed as common on multiple occasions. I’m leaving out everything that was of lower rarity initially, as well as everything that has an Adventure on it that is an instant. Also, Alchemy and silver-bordered don’t count.
