The Event Deck Project, First Steps

I explain the whole thing here and you can find the test run here.

Drafts and Trades

I have done a couple of drafts thusfar. Neither went very well, but I did manage to draft a Smothering Abomination and a From Beyond, which went into the deck. I took out Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Warden of the First Tree, because I wanted to put them into a trade binder. I also drafted a Shambling Vent, which is of course pretty good currency.

I did play something other than this deck during two FNMs already. The thing is, its very hard to trade for commons. I had to ask around and hope someone would remember to bring something I was interested in. Gladly, one of the regulars did remember and I was able to trade for a pair of Nantuko Husks and Zulaport Cutthroats. Furthermore, I got – in exchange for the aforementioned Vent – a pair of Corpseweft, a Merciless Executioner, three Grim Haruspexes (or whatever the plural of that is), a Bloodsoaked Champion and an Evolutionary Leap.

I was also able to do another trade. I traded the Tasigur for a Whisperwood Elemental, a pair of Llanowar Wastes’s and a whole set of Carrier Thralls, which means I’m well on my way.

I’m thinking currently, that with these additions, the list should look something like this:

Sadly, I didn’t get all the cards quite yet, so I can’t play this tomorrow at Game Day. Neither can I play it next FNM, because I’m judging a Modern Tournament. Still, I haven’t given up on this quite yet.

  1. Any luck with these changes? I thought the event deck was a lot stronger until I played with it as well. Thanks for your help with this!

    • Today is my first chance to try them out, so we’ll see. The problem now is that Aristocrats and Rally are very popular in our local meta, so I might be in a poor position to begin with.
