I’m not sure whether Elijah Wood actively stepped away from stardom after Lord of the Rings, but here we are. He has produced some very interesting movies (A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, Greasy Strangler and Mandy are all great), but he also has an acting career independent of this as these don’t seem to overlap. For example, he didn’t produce this one.

Same director and a similar premise: Take a weird trope that’s already familiar and make them into horror films.

I’m putting these two together beacuse I probably don’t have that much to say about them, but you can easily point out a theme, which ties these together: sacrificing virgins. Alhtough I do feel bad for putting two female directors together like this, as there isn’t that many of them.

IMDb lists this as a crime movie, but I do feel that this is a horror movie.

Before Michael Dougherty was roped into big budget mainstream movies (as it often happens), he made two holiday-related horror comedy classics. The other one is Krampus, but while this isn’t quite as good, it is almost as good. This one came out eight years prior to Krampus and Dougherty didn’t make any other features between them. The world is not fair. (Obviously, I don’t know him personally, so this might have been by choice, but I wouldn’t have minded seen more of his movies during this time.)

I wonder how self-aware the Duplass brothers are?
