Ixalan Brews, pt. 8 – Looking for Azcanta

All the double-faced cards in the set are kind of curious. They certainly have a high upside (as they are all rares), but the floor might be low as well. Is it worth it? I don’t really know. Let’s try this one…

Some part of me definitely wants to run [scryfall]Imminent Doom[/scryfall] into this very same deck, but that isn’t a good idea. Well, not a good idea in the sense of making a competitive deck. Not that this concoction is going to be competitive anyhow.

So, we need some creatures. How about those with Prowess or pseudo-Prowess?

Naah… Doesn’t feel good enough.

How about [scryfall]Metallurgic Summonings[/scryfall]? Now you’re talking my language… although not the competitive kind. Also, [scryfall]Dynavolt Tower[/scryfall], which might be pretty bad in a creatureless deck with [scryfall]Abrade[/scryfall]s everywhere. [scryfall]Swarm Intelligence[/scryfall]? Okay, okay, settle down. Let’s not go too far.

So, what about the instants and sorceries?

There are certain… nonbos here, but we can live with that. How often are we going to hit Pull with Fury?

[deck]
[spells]
4 Dynavolt Tower
4 Metallurgic Summonings
3 Search for Azcanta
4 Opt
4 Magma Spray
4 Abrade
4 Lightning Strike
4 Censor
4 Supreme Will
1 Hazoret’s Undying Fury
[/spells]
[lands]
4 Spirebluff Canal
10 Island
10 Mountain
[/lands]
[/deck]

The obvious problem here is that all the spells are pretty cheap, which means we can’t really gain huge monsters with Summonings, so this goes more into the fun to play category. The mana is pretty bad as well. As of right now, we don’t even have one of those uncommon comes-into-play-tapped lands for blue-red. Maybe they just haven’t been spoiled yet… This would work pretty well with against some aggressive decks, but besides that… naaah.
