Amonkhet Brews, pt. 11 – Jund Toad

I’ve seen some versions of this deck out there, but here’s mine anyhow.

[scryfall]The Gitrog Monster[/scryfall] has a nice symmetry with the cycling lands, so why not run with that.

3 Never // Return

  1. in place of sylvan advocate, why not grim flayer? can get you draws with gitrog, and is usually a 4/4 trampler… sylvan may never become a 4/5 with vigilance if you constantly sac your lands, also the new 5 drop lily can get you a 2/2 and possibly draw cards with gitrog in play

  2. There’s a strong chance the new Liliana hadn’t been spoiled yet when I wrote this. I’m not sure. Anyhow, putting in too many five-drops might not be a good idea, although she can also return the toad to the battlefield without extra cost, maybe after a Voice or Sin Prodder trigger has put it into the graveyard.

Grim Flayer, on the other hand, does bring its own deckbuilding constrictions. I’d like at least a few enchantments and/or artifacts to back the delirium. I’d also be worried about the chance that I’d never have enough lands in play, but I think I’d still rather have the 2/3. I would like to see where the format goes before deciding either way. Another possibility could be [card]Glint-Sleeve Siphoner[/card], for example.
