Alpha Polaris Released on Steam

Alpha_Polaris_PosterOnce upon a time I lived at Rovaniemi and game mastered a campaign of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying game for a group of friends. That small group had grown into a quite large community and it is called Redemund’s Guild (hence the name of the this blog too). Two of those original founding fathers of our guild were the driving force behind a horror game called Alpha Polaris and the original play testing was done via our forums.

So now I’m extremely delighted to see that game going on Steam!

Here is their official press release:

Alpha Polaris: A Horror Adventure Game launches on Steam

Alpha Polaris, an old-school adventure game focusing on character-driven horror and environmental themes launches on Steam in 22nd of October. Previously released worldwide in retail,  the game features professional voice-acted dialogues, hand-drawn dialogue portraits and an original soundtrack.

In the midst of the snowfields of Greenland lies Alpha Polaris, an American oil research station. High above, the ion storm of the century is gathering, bringing about a strange intermixing of reality and night terrors…

Alpha Polaris was developed by Turmoil Games, an indie game studio situated in Finnish Lapland, making the game an authentic Arctic production. Developed during two long and dark Finnish winters, the inspiration for the game was drawn from such sources as inuit legends, Cthulhu mythos and the very real blight polar bears face today. However, the narrative of Alpha Polaris is character-driven:

“The heart of the game is its restrained horror setting. It allows us to explore a wide range of human themes in a realistic way: paranoia, isolation, friendship, love and so on. To us, that is the core of a good horror adventure.” says project leader Teemu Vilén.

The Steam edition includes:

  • Expanded resolution support with a minimum resolution of 1280 x 768
  • Steam achievements & trading cards
  • Minor improvements and fixes, tweaked dialogue
  • Professional English voice acting with ingame texts available in English, Russian, German and Polish
