Getting Ready for RopeCon – Aki

Like Lauri before me, I’ll put down some thoughts on RopeCon here.

For the longest time, I wasn’t supposed to attend. There’s an MtG Grand Prix in Florence during the same weekend. Never been to Florence and this would have been a good excuse to go. Sadly, its a team event and our potential team fell through, so there wasn’t a point in going. This was in the air for a long time, so when I got around to making the decision to go to RopeCon, the hotel was already fully booked. I did get a nice room from the other side of the gulf, but its not right next to the site, which is a bit awkward, but I can live with that. Apparently I can live with paying for that rather than staying in the common sleeping areas. How bourgeioise of me. Then again, I don’t think anyone who knows me is going to be surprised.

After making that decision, came the problem of coming up with something to do. Gladly, Sami Koponen of Roolipelitiedotus had asked me to do something with him, so I took that opportunity. Its his brainchild, so I’m not going to go deeper into that right now. It seems like an interesting idea that’s not talked about very much and I hope I have some insight to bring.

I’m going to be taking part in the scenario contest again this year. I have an idea and not much time to implement it. I’ve wrangled Lauri into this as well since he posted. We’re going to work together on it.

Then there’s the question of doing something new this year. We’ll see what it could be. I exhausted quite a few options last year (speed dating LARP, GMing, the sumo thingy), but there’s still plenty to do. In a way I’m already doing something new, because the program with Sami is something new to me, but as a former teacher, public speaking isn’t a very big deal for me. If I don’t do anything else, I’ll still count that.

You can be sure I’ll once again write about everything that happened. In length. I’ll try to remember to put stuff up on our Instagram account, but there’s a good chance I won’t remember to.

I’d still like to volunteer for something. Should I judge an MtG tournament or maybe GM? Or both? I decided to apply to judge pick-up events on Friday. That’ll give me plenty of time for other stuff for the rest of the weekend.
