Journey Into Nyx Brews, pt. 2

More brews. This time totally randomly red and black monocolored decks.

Black Midrange

Biggest impact on black will probably be the [scryfall]Gnarled Scarhide[/scryfall], which enables even faster black decks, but since I have talked about those plenty, I’m going to a different direction here.

[scryfall]Extinguish All Hope[/scryfall] is a seemingly symmetric (affects all players similarly) sweeper, but like most such cards, its easy enough to abuse. Journey Into Nyx brings us at least three new enchantment creatures for black and we’re going to be using all of them here.

A sweeper, fun for all, future EDH budget staple.

Master of the Feast, quite hard to evaluate

Master of the Feast, quite hard to evaluate, but I guess the flavor text is very apt.

I don’t really know how good [scryfall]Master of the Feast[/scryfall] is going to be. It gives your opponents cards, but also since they are going to be very restricted on their mana in the early turns, they are not necessarily going to be able to use all those cards. Probably good versus control, bad versus burn, balanced by the sweeper against aggro. However, the true power of this deck is mostly dependent on how many enchantment creatures are going to see play. Right there are some. [scryfall]Courser of Kruphix[/scryfall] is definitely a thing, as are the enchantment creatures of the Suicide Black decks out there.

Monoblack Devotion

Not going to make a complete list here. Just going to say this much: [scryfall]Worst Fears[/scryfall] will be very true for some UW-player at some point and both Esper and Monoblack Devotion players will be behind it.

Red Devotion Aggro

This was a big thing for a week or so back in the early days of Theros. Now its dropped off the radar. However, the tools are here again:

Fanaticism is apparently easy to copy

Killing me softly, and hopefully the opponent much harder

Killing me softly, and hopefully the opponent much harder

Granted, the latter will nearly kill us, but we don’t really care about that. We only care that the opponent is being killed just a little quicker.

We can either take a very low curve approach, or a slower approach. Since I have four unused [scryfall]Stormbreath Dragon[/scryfall]s in my collection, I’m going to take the more midrangish approach, although I’d like the faster version more.

[cardlist]
[creatures]
4 Ash Zealot
4 Eidolon of the Great Revel
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Chandra’s Phoenix
4 Fanatic of Mogis
4 Stormbreath Dragon
[/creatures]
[spells]
4 Magma Jet
4 Searing Blood
4 Twinflame
[/spells]
[lands]
2 Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx
4 Mutavault
18 Mountain
[/lands]
[/cardlist]

Here’s probably room for very different approaches. For card advantage, either [scryfall]Chandra, Pyromaster[/scryfall] or [scryfall]Prophetic Flamespeaker[/scryfall].

Flamespeaker apparently sees into the future, but just not very far
